Start with an honest audit, not a wish-list timetable

Most revision timetables fail because they're written for an idealized version of the student who studies eight focused hours a day. Be honest about how many hours you actually have and actually concentrate well in, and build from that number.

Rank subjects by weakness, not by preference

It's tempting to spend more time on subjects you enjoy. Instead, rank subjects by where you'd lose the most marks right now, and weight your schedule toward closing those gaps first.

Break each subject into topics, not just "revise Chemistry"

A vague block labeled "Chemistry" invites procrastination because there's no clear finish line. "Revise chemical bonding and attempt 15 past-paper questions" has a clear start and end, which makes it far easier to actually begin.

Build in buffer days

Plans slip. A cold, a bad night's sleep, an unexpectedly hard topic — any of these can derail a tightly packed schedule. Leaving one buffer day a week to catch up prevents one bad day from collapsing the whole plan.

Use the last week for consolidation, not new content

Trying to learn new topics in the final week before exams is high-risk and low-reward. The last week is better spent on revision, past papers, and reinforcing what's already been studied.

Don't skip breaks to "save time"

Studying without breaks doesn't actually save time — focus drops sharply after 60-90 minutes, and the extra hours often produce very little retained information. Short, regular breaks keep the hours you do study productive.

Track what you finish, not just what you plan

At the end of each day, note what was actually completed versus what was planned. This keeps the schedule honest and lets you adjust the following days realistically instead of falling further behind silently.
