Established on 20 December 1969 as Government Intermediate College Turbat, the first college in the entire Makran Division; upgraded to a degree college in 1974. It was renamed in 1998 in memory of the noted Balochi poet and writer Atta Shad (1939-97). Affiliated with the University of Turbat.
