About the Institute

Originally founded by the Arya Samaj in 1866 as a school and later developed into Dayanand Anglo Vedic (DAV) College (established as such on 1 June 1886). Renamed Islamia College after the 1947 partition and nationalized in 1972 under Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. A women's wing was established in 1939 with help from Fatima Begum. Graduates are known as "Faranians"; notable alumni include several Prime Ministers, Chief Justices, and cricketer Wasim Akram. The college has historic ties to revolutionary Bhagat Singh's independence-movement activities in 1928.
