About the Institute
Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) is one of the oldest educational institutions in South Asia, founded as a school in 1885 by Hassan Ali Effendi. It became a college in 1943 and achieved university status in 2012. The public university occupies an eight-acre colonial-era campus in downtown Karachi and is chartered by the Government of Sindh and recognized by the HEC.
